Does Hygraph work in China?

Hygraph was reachable on every attempt from mainland China. Measured fact: from a probe inside mainland China (Alibaba Cloud cn-zhangjiakou), three runs, 2026-08-28, all three runs completed, first byte in a median 507ms and largest-contentful-paint at 1.9s. For a headless CMS the number that matters is not this page but the API round trip your front end makes on every render — a content API called from outside China pays the crossing on each request, which is why headless architectures often feel fine to test and slow in production.

How Hygraph performs from inside China

Hygraph uses global content delivery network (CDN) servers to ensure fast delivery to users across the globe, except for mainland China.

There are two main reasons Hygraph does not work in China.

Hygraph’s is not compliant with China’s laws and regulations.
Hygraph does not have any servers or CDNs in China. Most websites built with Hygraph’s headless, either won’t open or are extremely slow in China, as the speed test below shows.
