Measured fact: requested three times from a probe inside mainland China (Alibaba Cloud cn-zhangjiakou) on 2026-08-30, squarespace.com returned a first byte in a median 701ms, recorded a largest-contentful-paint of 50.4 seconds, and completed none of the three attempts within a 60-second ceiling. A 701ms first byte is a healthy connection; a fifty-second paint is a page nobody waits for. That gap is the shape of the problem on a hosted site builder, where the pages you publish are assembled from the platform’s own asset and script hosts and you do not choose them individually. The durable fix is to serve to Chinese visitors from inside the mainland, and doing that is what brings the ICP filing into the project alongside the delivery work.
